Meet Erin O'Neil
We are continuing our Meet the Tutor series this month and are excited to introduce you to one of our newest tutors, Erin O’Neil.
Erin grew up in Akron, Ohio and happily reminds us that Akron is also the hometown of Lebron James. She loved growing up in a big family, and is the fourth child out of 5. She loved playing sports, hanging out with my friends, and playing school with her older sister. No wonder she became a teacher!
Erin graduated from Miami University in 2013 with a degree in Special Education. After graduation, she started her teaching career at St. Ignatius Loyola Elementary School working with 3rd graders. She was there for four years, and currently works at Blue Ash Elementary in Sycamore Community Schools. She has been at Blue Ash for two years and works with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders.
How long have you been tutoring with Connections?
I just started with Connections in December 2018.
What's your favorite thing about tutoring?
I love being able to work with students 1:1. I rarely get that privilege everyday, and it’s an awesome opportunity to not only get to know the child as a learner but as an individual. One of my favorite parts of teaching is forming strong relationships with my students and tutoring allows me to do that in a 1:1 environment.
What is the best book you've read in the last year?
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah (adult book)
Tiger Rising by Kate DiCamillo (kids book)
How would you spend a free Saturday afternoon?
I love starting my Saturdays with a run or workout class. I usually find myself spending time with my friends on Saturday afternoons or running errands.
You just won an all expenses paid vacation! Where are you going?
Hawaii or Australia. I've always wanted to go to both, and I can't decide which one I want to go to first!
Thanks, Erin! We are so glad to have you on the Connections team!
