JON PETERSON SCHOLARSHIP

Empowering Academic
Growth

The Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship provides funding for students with IEPs for Ohio residents who are enrolled in private school or homeschool settings to receive specialized educational services. At Connections Academics, we use this opportunity to deliver personalized, one-on-one instruction tailored to each student’s unique learning needs and goals. Our team of licensed educators partners closely with families to implement IEPs with fidelity, provide targeted interventions, and help students build skills and confidence across academic areas. With guidance from our dedicated Peterson Scholarship Coordinator, we ensure every student receives consistent, high-quality support in a setting that works best for them

  • At Connections Academics, we provide individualized academic support that aligns directly with each student’s IEP goals. Our licensed educators deliver one-on-one instruction designed to close learning gaps, reinforce foundational skills, and build confidence across academic areas. We work collaboratively with families and school teams to ensure instruction is intentional, goal-driven, and adapted to the student’s unique learning profile. Our approach honors accommodations and modifications while empowering students to make meaningful progress.

  • Many students with IEPs benefit from explicit instruction in executive functioning skills. We help students develop strategies for planning, organization, time management, and task initiation. Our team works to build these skills into the student’s daily routine, using their interests and strengths as entry points. With consistent support, students grow in their ability to manage academic demands, sustain focus, and advocate for their learning needs across settings.

  • Supporting students in task management means helping them break down assignments, understand expectations, and follow through with completion. Our educators guide students in creating personalized systems—both digital and physical—that align with their accommodations and promote independence. Whether a student needs help organizing materials, tracking deadlines, or developing routines, we provide hands-on, practical support that fosters self-reliance and academic success.

Our Students’ Stories

“My son, Aaron, requires a special approach to learning. He especially struggles with math and sciences. We started with Amanda, the owner of Connections Academics, while Aaron was in high school. She takes time to make sure the match between the student and the tutor is the best possible. Aaron has been tutored over the last (at least) 7 years by the same tutor. She has come to know his learning style, his strengths and his challenges. Amanda runs a very professional business and I have watched her deservedly grow over time. I don’t know what we have done without Connections Academics.”
