Summer Reading 2024
When I think summer, I think pools, BBQs, and a good pile of books waiting to be read. Summer is here! What are you reading? If you’re still looking for the perfect books, Connections has got you covered with a few recommendations to get you started!
Picture Books:
This clever book is a great one to read side-by-side with an animal loving child! Different? Same! introduces the concepts of comparing and contrasting while teaching fun facts about animals. It sparks great conversations and children observe carefully to see how animals are different…and the same!
Mac Barnett’s retelling of The Three Billy Goats Gruff is pure magic! The quick, silly language along with Jon Klassen’s detailed illustrations make for such a fun read.
Early Chapter Books
The Ballpark Mysteries series has been around for awhile, but with new books still coming out, this is a great series for baseball fans to dive into this summer.
Mercy Watson to the Rescue is a delightful introduction to chapters books for young readers. Mercy is more than a pig in the Watson household, he is a “porcine wonder” who is also known to get into some mischief. This silly and charming series has wonderful illustrations to support a reader who is ready to try longer books.
Upper Elementary
Prepare your wilderness lovers for a summer of outdoor adventure and survival with Wilderness Survival Guide For Kids. Whether camping in the mountains or in your backyard, this book is filled with knowledge and interesting skills for kids who love the great outdoors.
The third book of the Wild Robot series came out last year, and if you haven’t gotten your hands on The Wild Robot Protects, this summer is the perfect time. This entire series is fantastic which short chapters that allow you squeeze in just one more before lights out.
Middle & High School
Wizard for Hire is the first book in a series of three, and it is a great read for Harry Potter lovers. When Ozzy’s parents go missing, he can’t go to the police due to his parents’ top secret careers. Could a self-proclaimed wizard who may or may not have a magical wand actually help Ozzy save his parents?
James Dashner, the author of The Maze Runner series, continues to keep readers turning the next page as fast as they can. The Eye of Minds is an edge-of-your-seat cyber thriller sure to keep your reader up late into a summer night.
